St Bonaventure, pray for us!

St Bonaventure became a Franciscan at the age of 22. He was elected by Friars to serve as their General Minister and managed to structure the Order through effective legislation that solved many conflicts including the interpretation of poverty. Bonaventure’s wisdom and ability to reconcile opposing views moved Pope Gregory X to name him cardinal bishop of Albano, Italy, in May 1273. Saint Thomas Aquinas once visited Saint Bonaventure while he was engaged in writing the life of St Francis. He found Saint Bonaventure raised in ecstasy above the earth. Reverently he withdrew, saying to his companion: “Let us leave a saint to write about a saint.”
