Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! – Mark 11:10
Why Do We Use Blessed Palms on Palm Sunday?
At the beginning of Mass on Palm Sunday, the palms are blessed by a priest. After this blessing and the sprinkling of holy water, the palms become sacramentals. Every part of the palm is blessed, including the “strings” or thin threads that often find their way on the floor.
Palms and olive branches are kept in the home as a witness to faith in Jesus Christ, the messianic king, and in his Paschal Victory.
Palm Sunday is a wonderful reminder of how we continually work against sin, but regardless of our sin, that Jesus will always be there waiting for us, waiting to forgive us, when we are ready to accept his love.
